Being a student means having a lot of things to deal with: lectures, group work, presentations, essays, and side projects, but also things like budgeting and expense management.
I have selected five web applications with super useful functionalities that can make your life easier. Non-student readers might find these web applications worth a try, too! The web tools suggested can be used for other purposes beyond students needs.
Pith.li: The online yellow marker
Pith.li allows you to highlight words, sentences, or paragraphs in digital text and comment on them. It lets you store and highlight the important information in online publications or articles. Forget bookmarks. Stop saving links and start using Pith.li to easily save and store what you’re interested in. Add your own categories and tags to retrieve exactly what you need later. Pith.li helps you save time and be more efficient when doing research!
Prezi: Make original and well designed presentations
Want to rock your presentations? Prezi is a good way to start. Thanks to many templates, an easy interface, and its zoom-in and zoom-out capabilities, it is a great way to prepare an important presentation. This web application is better to use with icons, images, and videos—thus, for creative purposes—rather than to show figures.
Dropbox: Cloud storage accessible from everywhere
Dropbox is a cloud-based hosting service. You can create special folders on the website or directly on your computer. The files, pictures, and videos are then synchronized and accessible in the same folder, regardless of which computer is used to view it.
You can instantly access Dropbox from any location. Anything you add to Dropbox will automatically show up on all your devices where you have installed the app—computers, tablets, phones—and online on the Dropbox website.
Dropbox makes sharing and collaboration easier. You can invite other users to any folder in Dropbox, which makes it the perfect web application for group projects.
Grammarly: Your online writing coach
You may sometimes find yourself in the situation of wondering whether your sentences are right, asking friends or family to review your letters, essays, etc. So whether everyone is busy, or you want to reduce their workload, Grammarly will help you improve your writing so your peers can concentrate on meaning, structure, and style!
With millions of users and over 600 business and university partnerships, Grammarly’s trusted writing-assistance software is designed to strengthen your vocabulary usage, check for over 250 types of grammatical errors, and detect erroneous use of words and phrases.
Bonus!
These apps will not help you to get better grades, but they will help you in your daily life!
Wunderlist: The easy “to-do” web application
Once you have moved out of your parents’ house, you realize how many things you need to do apart from studying and working. Wunderlist helps you with listing, organizing, prioritizing, and sharing your daily to-do list.
“Wunderlist allows you to organize and share your to-do, work, grocery, movies, and household lists. No matter what you’re planning, how big or small the task may be, Wunderlist makes it super easy to get stuff done.”
Mint: A smart and easy way to manage your budget
Managing a budget is something new for most students. With age and experience, you learn how. But why not build these important skills right away with a super-easy-to-use web or mobile application?
“Mint automatically pulls all your financial information into one place, balances and transactions together, so you can finally get the entire picture.”
Add the accounts, cards, and bills you’d like to keep track of. See what you have and what you owe. Track your spending patterns, investments, and more.
KittySplit: Group expenses made easy
Having a social life is great. Paying for your friends when they forgot their money/don’t have cash/are too lazy to go and withdraw some is fine… until you have to track the expenses and request the debts be paid! KittySplit has the solution.
