Writing Tip no. 22

When you have got a lot of information to cover for a topic or a character, it can be tempting to lay all that down on paper in the first go-round. This is overwhelming for your potential audience and doesn’t leave much of interest to cover later. Instead, be sure that you have a simple way of thinking and summarizing your information, character, plot, etc. This should be the main idea that you want your reader to take away. Whenever you find yourself diving too deep into a point of information, try to step back and ensure that all that detail is serving the broader goal. It is likely that it won’t and you can scale back a bit.

November is National Novel Writing Month , or #NaNoWriMo, where thousands of writers around the world commit to writing an entire novel during November. Even if you can’t commit to writing a whole book, you can join Grammarly in our celebration of this month with #GrammoWriMo
