Five tips for CRUSHING your #finalsproblems

Winter is a season that evokes good times and holiday cheer. But for students, winter means that finals are descending and high anxiety is in the air. Today’s students aren’t just venting their frustrations and fears about final exams to their peers, they’re sharing them online through various (and hilarious) memes and status updates. We tuned in to the #FinalsWeek conversation on Twitter and identified the most common #FinalsProblems students face as they prepare to take exams and meet research paper deadlines. Finals week tweets may be funny, but we know those grades are no laughing matter. Here’s our advice for tackling the top five struggles!

Methodology

Throughout this year, we collected Twitter data from tweets about #FinalsProblems. We discovered the most popular problems by identifying the topics students were tweeting about and then manually checking and tallying their occurrences. Similar words and phrases (e.g., stress, anxiety, panic attack) were grouped together and ranked collectively. We also identified and ranked the top 10 most commonly used words in tweets that contained the #FinalsProblems hashtag during the same timeframe.
